Rabbi Sacks is the 2017 recipient of the American Enterprise Institute award.

His acceptance speech is in large part a statement of the importance of community values and overlaps substantially with values underpinning our own Australian Jewish Association.

He explains the difference between contract and covenant, the foundational role of the Torah (Hebrew bible) in values embedded in the American narrative, free speech as essential and community based on strong institutions. He criticises identity politics, populism and other trends undermining values.

For these reasons, we commend listening to the speech (25 min) which commences at about 15:35 in the video accessible via the link below..

Sacks touches on these issues with an uncharacteristic clarity or concession to PC dogmas that tend to normally punctuate his viewpoint. A benefit no doubt of being in a free land not under the ransom of the Islamic heel.
